Patio Screen Door Handle Replacement
Patio screen doors are a great way to let in fresh air and enjoy the outdoors without letting in bugs and other pests. However, over time, the handles on these doors can become worn or damaged, making them difficult to open and close. If your patio screen door handle is not working properly, you can replace it yourself with a few simple tools and a little bit of time.
Tools and Materials You Will Need
- New patio screen door handle
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Flat head screwdriver
- Measuring tape or ruler
- Pencil or pen
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Remove the old handle. Using the Phillips head screwdriver, remove the two screws that are holding the old handle in place. Once the screws are removed, the handle should come off easily.
2. Measure the distance between the two mounting holes. Use the measuring tape or ruler to measure the distance between the two mounting holes on the door. This measurement will help you to determine the size of the new handle that you need.
3. Mark the location of the new mounting holes. Using the pencil or pen, mark the location of the new mounting holes on the door. Make sure that the holes are centered and that they are the same distance apart as the holes on the old handle.
4. Drill pilot holes. Using the drill, drill two pilot holes at the marks that you made in the previous step. The pilot holes should be slightly smaller than the screws that you will be using to mount the new handle.
5. Install the new handle. Place the new handle over the pilot holes and insert the screws. Tighten the screws until the handle is securely in place.
6. Test the handle. Open and close the door to make sure that the new handle is working properly.
Tips
- If you are having trouble removing the old handle, you can try using a flat head screwdriver to pry it off.
- Be careful not to overtighten the screws when you are installing the new handle.
- If you are not sure how to replace the handle on your patio screen door, you can always consult with a professional.
