How To Make A Patio Bench

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to make a patio bench:

Materials:

2x4 lumber (pressure-treated or cedar)
2x6 lumber (pressure-treated or cedar)
1x6 lumber (pressure-treated or cedar)
Wood screws
Wood glue
Clamps
Drill
Saw
Tape measure
Level
Sandpaper
Stain or paint (optional)

Steps:

1. Cut the lumber:

Cut the following pieces from the 2x4 lumber:

4 legs (18 inches long)
2 armrests (24 inches long)
4 seat supports (16 inches long)

Cut the following pieces from the 2x6 lumber:

1 backrest (48 inches long)
2 seat slats (48 inches long)

Cut the following pieces from the 1x6 lumber:

4 backrest slats (16 inches long)

2. Assemble the legs and armrests:

Attach the legs to the armrests using wood screws and wood glue. Make sure the legs are perpendicular to the armrests and that the screws are countersunk.

3. Attach the seat supports:

Attach the seat supports to the inside of the legs, 4 inches from the bottom. Use wood screws and wood glue, and make sure the screws are countersunk.

4. Attach the seat slats:

Attach the seat slats to the seat supports using wood screws and wood glue. Make sure the screws are countersunk and that the slats are evenly spaced.
